Over 225 soccer
athletes tryout for FC Napoli Teams Spring 06
With the conclusion of the spring 2006 season, which saw
7 of the 8 FC Napoli teams with high
winning percentages:
WildFire 4-1-2; Sparks 5-2-0; Blaze
4-0-3; Inferno 4-2-1; HEAT 6-0-1; Flames 6-1-0;
Missiles 4-2-1,
the draw at the FC Napoli
tryouts was high. About 228 soccer athletes participated in the 15 day on going tryout event. The 228 players is a long way from the
2003 first FC Napoli tryout when 32 players showed up for
membership on 3
FC Napoli fall teams.
Over the last 3 years Napoli
has better than tripled in size, now set to field 8 MAPLE
girls teams and 2 MAPLE boys teams. The quality of play, as evident by
qualifying all but one FC Napoli team
into the Div. 1 or Div. 2 for the 06-07 season, is very good for such a
young club.
Napoli
has had their share of growing pains over the last few years. It is
difficult to hold onto good developing players with as many clubs in the
central MA area all vying for the same pool of players. It takes
patients to develop a strong solid team yet many don't understand that
the first element of team development is consistency, consistency in the
coaching approach, consistency in tactical plan, consistency in player
skills and most of all consistency in player personnel. Long term team
success doesn't happen overnight, it takes time, effort, patients and
commitment.
Its frustrating to
train a team player over 12-24 plus months only to have them swooned away with a promise of ...? something ? Many clubs offer very good
coaching and have historic reputations that date back to the late 1980's, but
what we think has set Napoli on a
slightly different course has been the focused of consistently teaching
young athletes soccer at its purest level, thus resulting in creating a
genuine love and respect for the game.
Developing skills in
young athletes using a combination of a German and Italian influence
style of soccer is not an easy task for most young soccer players to
grasp. It takes a few years for the concepts, skills and tactical
methods to be understood, but it is this approach that has really been the difference
in the quick success of the FC Napoli
teams. The results in
the older age groups has shown that with consistent quality
instruction, belief in a system, familiarity with players & coaches and
faith & trust in teammates, teams that create a positive style together
experience success together.
Facts is: 29 of the original 32 players that showed up
at the first Napoli tryout back in
June of 2003 are still playing for FC Napoli
6 seasons later and all are playing on teams at the MAPLE 1 or 2 Division
level.
Players who attended the first
FC Napoli TryOut (June 23, 2003 6:00pm) and are still playing with FC Napoli are:
Sydney Bailey,
Alexa Baroni, Ryan Baroni,
Lauren Barry,
Jana Berthiaune, Jessica Berthiaume, Peter Boguszewski,
DJ Bourdeau, Katie Cataldo, Leah Carbonnrau, Michelle Cavalieri, Danielle Dion, Erica Gagliastre, Nicole Gagliastre,
Ben Gustafson, Jillian Karns, Jamie Kerr, Justina Melendez, Shannon Mulvey, Lizz
Murray, Stephanie Nugent, Jessica Rhodes, Colleen Ryan, Ryan Santoro, Brittney
Spencer, Ian Stadig, Courtney Sturgis, Elizabeth Tarpinian & Brittnie
Taylor.
A big Thank You goes
out to the original 29.

6/23/06 Cara Germain nets it
again / Meet the D1 FC Napoli Flames
In a wild weird turn of events the
FC Napoli Flames beat Western
United 2-1 to win their
promotion game and advance into division one for the Spring 2007
MAPLE season.
The game turned on a
dime when head coach Esad Darman
made some tactical adjustments late in the second half down by one. In a
must win situation, Coach Esad
flooded the box going with essentially
5 mid fielders and 3 strikers, leaving only two DHB to defend. He also
moved personnel around in an attempt to out match Western United in
their defensive 1/3. Within minutes, four to be exact, with
Western United on their heels attempting to get reorganized to the
overload set, Jodi Theriault
made a run from the left side and slammed a power shot through the
packed-in Western United defense to tie the score with just under five
minutes remaining.
The
Flames continued the assault
and did not change up as Western United and everybody on the sidelines
expected them to, they stayed in the five mid field set (2 DHB) and
moved rising star Cara Germain
up front. Germain
took control and somehow found new energy as this physical wet muddy
game went into stoppage time. The center ref signaled 3 minutes stoppage
and with that Germain
seized the opportunity leaving only 17 seconds on the stoppage clock to,
for the second straight game, create an incredible scoring opportunity
that ended the match with, what coach Darman
said, "was one of the most unbelievable individual efforts I have ever
seen" - GOAL !!!!!
It is hard to express
the emotion this game produced. The combination of the chess match
played perfectly by the FC Napoli
coaching staff and the hard play, never give-up attitude, of the entire
FC Napoli
team was somewhat overwhelming. As the
players and parent left the field hart felt hugs, high fives and thank
you hand shakes were abundant. One player, while giving coach
Darman an
attack hug said, "we have the greatest coach, no other coach would have
had the guts or knowledge to make the changes to put us in the position
to win this game".
The trust and
compassion between coach and players was the difference in this match
(and a little Cara Germain didn't hurt either). And when the pressure
was on with the game and 2007 season on the line, the
FC Napoli Flame
burned brightest.

Missiles catch lighting.
The FC Napoli Missiles
team end the season with a 7-1 victory over Lightning FC. The
Napoli girls pulled together, playing
without any experienced keeper and with less than a full team walked
onto the field last weekend and showed just how good they can be when
they stay focused and play together as a team.
Coach JP said "we saved our best game to
end the season. The ball movement was better and we finished plays.
Given the heat of the day we still continued to play hard for the entire
90 minutes".
This victory is a great way for these
FC Napoli players to transition from
MAPLE soccer to a focus of High School soccer. Auburn, Oxford, Tantasqua,
Woodstock and Marianapolis, will all have benefited from the the quality
of play these young ladies have played with over the second half of the
season. We wish them all the luck in the fall since most of these FC
Napoli players will be key players for their High School soccer teams
success.

FC Napoli GU17
Flames move forward in D1 Qualifying game.
The Flames play to a 2-2 tie
over the Aztec’s
at Thayer Academy (3:30 game) on Saturday. The tie keeps
FC Napoli
in
the hunt for a D1 spot for the 2007 spring season.
Coach Darman
was ecstatic with his teams play. With all the injuries (most
significant sweeper Jill St.George
out with ACL tear) and with all the
adjustments made for this game, the team really turned it up a notch.
The Aztec’s are considered one of the best teams in the State, playing in the round robin rounds placing 3rd in the State Cup
2006.
Jordynn
Frollo scores the first goal
of the game putting Napoli
up 1-0. The Aztec’s battled back to take a 2-1 lead. The score remained
2-1 until the 85 minute (that's 5 minutes remaining in the game for you American
soccer fans) when Cara Germain
fought through 3 defenders just outside the 18 and somehow – amazingly
was able to get a shot off just to the right of the Aztec’s outstretched
keeper to tie the score at 2. “Cara Germain
played with two harts today” said coach Darman.
“A play like that takes so much effort and one determined hart is not
enough to make that shot – Cara
play with two harts today – she is great player today”
Sweeper Kara Laperle
showed what unselfish team play is all about. She stepped in and played
the Sweeper position, that was vacated due to the injury to
Jill, and played the
position with confidence and tenacity, anchoring the Napoli defensive
1/3 like the Queen Mary locked in New York harbor.
The
FC Napoli
Flames will
take on Western United (also a final 8 team in State Cup this year) on
Tuesday, June 20 at Oxbow field 6:30.

Berthiaume receives FC Napoli
Merit Award
Jana Berthiaume
receives FC Napoli Merit Award. The FC
Napoli Merit Award
is an award of achievement presented to an
FC Napoli MAPLE player by club president, Esad Darman,
in recognition to the club member's achievement and quality of merit
that exemplifies the FC Napoli
spirit, traditions of leadership and contributions to team excellence.
The
FC Napoli
Flames
have been led by team captain Jana Berthiaume for 3 years.
Ms Berthiaume has brought a desire to succeed that has been the corner
stone by which the
FC Napoli Flames success has been built. Jana’s work ethic off
the game field (never
missing a single practice / arriving early for all games) has awarded her
great success on the field. From her midfield position, she has led the
team in goals scored and assists each of her 3 seasons season with
FC Napoli, culminating with eight
goals this spring.
According to her coach
Esad Darman, what truly makes Jana a special player is her
willingness to do anything asked of her and is always upbeat with a
infectious positive approach. She displays the utmost respect to her
coaches and is admired by teammates and club members alike.
Playing on one of the older
FC Napoli
teams Jana has set a high standard for those younger players to aspire
to.
FC Napoli
is fortunate to have such a wonderful young lady representing our
organization. Congratulations Jana!

Scanlon
receives FC
Napoli
Merit Award
Jenna Scanlon
receives FC Napoli Merit Award.
The FC
Napoli Sparks’s
have such a player in the young Ms. Scanlon. She has
played multiple positions all season, playing where ever her coaches
have asked her to play. She has never sought the individual recognition
and has been a consummate team player. Her leadership by example, at
such a young age, is quite commendable.
Jenna’s
quality of play has many opponents doubling her and keying on her every
move. She has been knocked down and purposefully hit hard by opponents at
every opportunity in virtually every game. She has retaliated only by
making on field plays that have resulted in her high contribution to the
FC Napoli Sparks 5 win, second place finish in MAPLE this spring season.
It was with great pride and
admiration that coach Darman selected Jenna Scanlon as
only the second FC Napoli player
to receive this Merit Award.
Congratulations Jenna, - The
entire FC Napoli club (all 144
players and all 20 coaches) are proud of how you represent this club.

Champions FC Napoli GU14 Inferno |
The
FC Napoli
Inferno
take the GU14 Premier Division Championship at the Nashua
Girls Soccer Association
14th Annual Memorial Day Invitational Tournament. The Inferno team
showed the same resiliency in this tournament that they have shown all
season.
In the first game on Saturday morning the Inferno
came out and beat a good Bayside United team. In the 2nd game they lost
0-1 on a somewhat odd goal. With the Napoli keeper having the ball in
control a West Hartford player kicked the ball out loose
in front of the net resulting in the only Goal of the match.
In the game on Sunday the Inferno took care of
business and beat Derry NH Eagles 5-0, placing them into the semi
finals. Monday saw the Inferno take the 8:00am semi final game and the
12:30 final against, the same West Hartford team they had lost to
earlier in the tournament. The Championship game was won by a score of
1-0.
Congratulations to the FC
Napoli GU14 Inferno for a great Tournament!
The Inferno now will play a MAPLE D1
promotional game - Date time to be announced. With the way this team is
playing right now the Crusaders should take note. Coach Simone and the
Inferno team should really be proud of their accomplishments this
season.
----------------------------------------------
The FC Napoli
GU10 Wildfire were the only undefeated FC Napoli team at the Nashua
Tournament. According to Club President Esad Darman the WildFire
played like a much older team this weekend. "They really played good
solid soccer with great ball movement," he said. The WildFire
will be playing in MAPLE GU11 next fall.
----------------------------------------------
Other Memorial Day Invitational
Tournament results:
GU11 Sparks: 0-3-0
GU15 HEAT: 2-1-0 lost in playoff
PK to Southeastern CT
GU16 Hawks: 1-2-0
GU17 Flames: 2-0-1 scored 11 goals

beating Berkshire to place 1st in the division |

(photo 5/25/06) |

The
FC Napoli HEAT
place first in the division and advance for
the spring 2007 season. The victory over a strong physical Berkshire
United team (1-0) was the perfect end to a very productive undefeated
(6-0-1) first place finish. The HEAT have now gone undefeated in the
last two MAPLE league seasons. This spring the HEAT dominated the
division winning 6 in a row and leading the division in every
statistical category. Most goals scored at fifteen (15) {averaging over 2 goals/game},
fewest goals against four (4) (averaging .5/per game} and highest goal differential at +11.
Against previously unbeaten Berkshire United in the final game the
HEAT new they needed to play a hard physical game to neutralize
the strong Berkshire attack. The HEAT were able to do just that.
With key hard-marks on the Berkshire Superstar (#27 Jennifer Ferrari) Steph Nugent and Alexa Baroni
held her in check the entire game which allowed the HEAT defense to stay
in its normal zone mark-up help set. And with the offensive keeping
pressure at the other end the Berkshire players were never really able
to get untracked.
The final message was sent when, on a set throw-in
play, team captain Jamie Kerr cut the ball left and sent her power shot
into the back of the net, from about 15 yds, putting the game in
HEAT control.
"We told our players that Berkshire would come out and
try to take us out of our game by playing real physical, maybe even a
little over the top - our theme for the last two weeks was
Retaliate by Putting The Ball Into The Back Of The Net. And they
did."
Coach Bailey said "the girls played hard again
tonight, we made some mistakes but with the style we play their is
always a teammate in good position to support and counteract the
miscue." "We stayed within our game plan and the players executed it
rather well." "I could point out about 17 or 18 outstanding plays from
as many players, but the bottom-line is we played a real good team game
tonight and it is this team style that has carried us the entire
season." "And of course it always helps when the best Keeper in
the league in on our team." "Dee Leary has been outstanding for the
last two years and tonight she was at the top of her game."
The HEAT move-on to Nashua this weekend to take
on 3 Region one League teams, the RI Rays, the NH MISL and the CT
Eagles.

Mission Accomplished:
Boys U13 Division 2 Bound
On a game played on a state-of-the-art turf field at
Endicott College, the FC Napoli
Blaze secured their place in MAPLE D2 for the fall of 2006 by
beating North Shore United 1-0.
The Napoli boys
played tough all game creating multiple scoring opportunities. Playing
on an artificial turf surface took some adjustment but the passing game
eventually lead to the goal.
The defense was solid keeping the ball out of the area
and transitioning everything quickly to the midfield. Ian
Stadig scored the lone goal from 10 yards outside the goal
area...looped over the goalie a few minutes into the second half.
Acting coach Joe Simone (who was filling in for
coach Scanlon who's wife is in the hospital) said: "The boys
played hard and created opportunities by moving the ball well up and
down the field"
Yes "Mission Accomplished": Division 2 Bound with an
outstanding 4-0-3 MAPLE Spring season.

FC Napoli high

The Hawk go down to RI
Bend Street field on Tuesday night,
turn on the night lights and upset the RI Rays by beating them 3-1.
The Rays wanted to play this make-up game at night under the lights
hoping to gain that "home field" edge. The Hawks would have nothing to
do with it and stayed on the attack the entire game. The
FC Napoli Hawks
have scored 5 goals in the last two games and are on a roll as they head
up to Nashua this weekend.

FC
Napoli Boys U13 stay unbeaten with one game remaining.
Waves of Water Can't Put Out the Blaze!
The FC Napoli Blaze
used their outside mids to stretch the field and this, according to
coach Dan Scanlon, was the key to the game. The Blaze's
ability to create crisp passing using triangle passing concepts allowed
for a tremendous attack up field. The Blaze found holes in the
WAVE defense and were able to push balls into open space all day, leading
to over 20 shots on the Wave goalie. Two goals scored in the first half
and four in the second half. Waves sole goal came with 8 minutes
remaining in the game.
The rain started at the break which made for very
slippery 2nd half conditions...however crisp passing and
excellent individual defense continued to frustrate the Wave in the
final 35 minutes. Two outstanding
defensive plays of note; Peter Boguszewski made the SAVE of the
game (maybe the best save of the year) with 2 minutes remaining in the
first half with the score 2-0, Peter stopped a low drive to the
corner. The ball deflected off of his glove just enough to brush the far
post as it skirted out of play. This stop was certainly a Wave momentum
breaker going into the 2nd half. The second significant defensive play
happened in the second half was made by Ayman Abdelgadir who ran
in behind Peter who came out of the net to make a save...a Wave player
blasted a shot at the open net which Ayman, who was positioned
perfectly, blocked and cleared. Coach Scanlon said "This team
improves with every game. There are no superstars or large egos just
talented, hard working, smart soccer players."
John Estes 2 goals (one break away) Ian
Stadig 2 goals Jayson DaSilva 1 goal (free kick about 25
yards out to the top right corner) Ben Gustafson (about 20 yards
out to the top right corner).
----------------------------------------------
Sparks
ignite in MAPLE Green flight
The FC Napoli
Sparks used speed and quickness to out shoot, out score and
out play CRU. The final FC Napoli 3 - CRU 0. This is the 5th time in 6
games that the Sparks defense has recorded a shutout. As a team they
have only given up one (1) goal all season and are averaging 1.6 goals
per game.
The young Sparks
take on the Blackhawks on Tuesday 5/23 at 6:00pm at Raytham field in the
final game of the season. The Sparks are
vying for first with Western United who finish up with SS Select on
Monday 5/22.

5/14/06 FC Napoli would like
to thank all mothers who make it possible for your wonderful sons and
daughters to play soccer for FC Napoli. HAPPEY MOTHERS DAY !
Not even a declaring of a state of emergency from
Massachusetts Governor Mitt Romney, due to flooding, could put the
Flames out on Sunday. The FC Napoli
Flames beat Mission 3-0. This win secures the
FC Napoli GU17 team a shot at advancing in MAPLE next
spring. If, current first place team, TVC falters just slightly in the
next two game (vs Puma or the Boston Blast - two very good teams) than an
FC Napoli
win at home in week 7 vs Boston would land FC Napoli in first place. The
victory today secured the Flames with at least a challenge game vs
likely foe MAPLE D1 Aztec's SC, at UMass in June.
----------------------------------------------
Bruno United arrived at Roach field hopping to
overtake the 2nd place FC Napoli Inferno
on Sunday. But the Inferno refused to be surpass and remain in 2nd place after a well
played 2-2 hard fought game in the mid-day wind and rain at Roach field.
The standings in MAPLE GU14 D2 will come right down to the final game of
the season with 3 teams, FC Napoli,
Bruno United and SF Vikings, all vying for first place.
----------------------------------------------
On a bitter cold rainy wind driven field somewhere on
an old converted farm field out in the middle of
Wheelwright, MA - (Yes there is such a
place called "Wheelwright" - don't ask me or Map Quest to say exactly
where) on a soccer field named Roach, the FC
Napoli Heat were just barely able to turn the HEAT up enough
to squeak out a victory over CRU, 2-1. Despite CRU scoring in the
first half on a PK, the HEAT would not be stopped scoring 2 in
the second half. Megan Granahan finished up a great corner from
Colleen Soper for the first score and Lizzie Tarpinian
literally forced in a goal in the last 90 seconds of the game to secure
the victory!
The HEAT are currently 5-0-1 this spring and
are on the verge of their 2nd consecutive undefeated MAPLE league season
as they enter their "winner take all" match vs Berkshire United next
Sunday. The Heat have lost only 1 MAPLE league regular season game since
October of 2003 (27 consecutive games) and next Sunday a win or tie will
place them in first in the division. Might be a game worth watching as
Berkshire is also undefeated this spring. Match time: Sunday 5/21/06
4:30 at
Marianapolis.
Winner takes first loser goes to UMass to play in the challenge game vs
either Boston Bolts or South Coastal.
---------------------------------------------- The
FC Napoli Hawks played a very spirited
game on Sunday. After a 2 hour drive out to Pittsfield MA and being one
of just a few MAPLE teams to actually play last Sunday, the Hawks made
it all worthwhile by scoring two goals. It is obvious to anyone who
watches this team, that they play with
spirit and spunk. It should be noted that the Hawks are actually
playing up in the age group. This is a team with rosterd players that
qualify for GU15 & GU14. Playing GU16 is a challenge but in the end should be
beneficial to those planning to play High School soccer in the fall. It
is with Pride that this team steps onto the field each and every week,
and it is this same sense of pride that will ultimately bring success to
the players involved.
"Success is to be
measured by the
obstacles overcome".

Twenty nine, YES 29 goals scored in 7 games by FC Napoli teams on Sunday.
Can you say "STRIKER"
A good day for soccer and a great day for
Napoli Style
Soccer.
The FC Napoli
Wildfire win 6-1 over CRU. The offense went "WILD-FIRE" and
scored 6 goals, yet, according to coach Wes, it really was the defense
that shined. Julie Mulcahy,
Jessica Floser, Amanda Collins, Kelsey Letson,
Amanda Slater, Robyn & Rebecca Thornburg and Alyssa
Silk kept the CRU shots on goal to a minimum. The offense came from
everywhere: Adrianna Bent had the
first goal and an assist. Megan Dunn had 2 goals and an assist.
Gabrielle Guenther had 2 goals. Kelsy Letson had a goal.
Nicole Dion had an assist. Ashley Quinn had an assist.
Danyel Stone had an assist. Yes a good day for
FC Napoli
Wildfire soccer.
----------------------------------------------
The FC Napoli GU11
Sparks again got very good goal tending from both Kylie Lowe
& Joardann Hauge and combined with sister teammate sweepers Erin
& Jenna Scanlon the Sparks shutout Explosion FC 2-0. Olivia Baroni
did the damage on the other end scoring one in the first half and one in
the second. The Sparks will enter MAPLE week six at 4-1-0 and in
first place 3pts ahead of 2nd place Western United.
----------------------------------------------
CAN'T BEAT THE HEAT IN CT TODAY! Division
leader
FC Napoli vs 2nd place Boston Blast.
Napoli scores 5 goals on 27 shots to beat the Boston based
Blast 5-1. FC Napoli's Jen Harding struck first 13 minutes in with a
Blast from the right side about 16 out. Scoring got even hotter with a
well placed PK scored by Hillary Chesson, then another goal by
Harding on a hard run that she sliced passed the goalie into the far
post, all within 3 minutes! The Heat continued to dominate the game and
scoring resumed after the half with 2 Colleen Soper goals at the 59
and 78 minute marks. Heat was definitely ON
today! Historians take note, the Boston Blast Massacre took place
May 7th 2006 in Thompson CT not in Boston on March 5th 1770 as was
originally recorded.
----------------------------------------------
The FC Napoli Hawks
are starting to come together. Behind coach Darren
Doherty the Hawks are putting some runs together and are currently
playing strong defensively. It's just a matter of time before the Hawks
begin to hit the back of the net. "This team has good character
and works hard. If they continue to play with the enthusiasm they played
with today only good things in the future for the Hawks".
----------------------------------------------
At the MAPLE College showcase (league game) in
Hopkinton the
FC Napoli Flames scored 10 goals vs CRU
- enough said.
----------------------------------------------
The FC Napoli GU18
Missiles went down by one to STS before one quick smash by Maggie
Leary tied it up. "I was really proud of the way the girls
picked up the intensity in the second half and played well together"
said first year coach JP Galicia. In the second half we out shot
them and played strong defense with goalie Melinda Robbins
playing her best game of the season.
----------------------------------------------
FC Napoli
Blaze Fights Off a Mutiny. Napoli 2 : Mutiny 1. Possession was
a key to this game and the boys possessed for 60% of the game. The other
Key was the two goals scored by John Estes. John's first
goal was placed in the lower right side of the goal on a nice thru ball
at the 10 minute mark of the 2nd half.
Then a defensive mistake lead to a PK goal
for Mutiny tying the game at 1 with less than 5 minutes remaining. This seemed to energize
the Blaze into an all out assault on the Mutiny defense that ultimately lead
to beautiful through ball again to John Estes who this time found the top right
corner for the go ahead goal with less than two minutes on the clock.
Defensively several
fine positional saves by Peter Boguszewski lifted up the Blaze
defense who played a very sound game. Coach Scanlon noted "Great play from our
midfield lead to many scoring chances for our forwards. I was very
pleased with the overlap runs and the involvement of our fullbacks in
these runs".
Blaze stay undefeated as they enter MAPLE week
6 vs North Shore United at the
Gov Dummer Academy
field.
----------------------------------------------
The FC Napoli GU14
Inferno won their fourth game on Sunday and posted a season high
three goals. All three goals came on well executed team connections. The
first goal came on duel assists - Chelsea Barr leading Meghan
Leahy up the right sideline hit a perfect far post crossed to
Jess Berthiaume who rapped it in. For the second goal, Chelsea
Urso dropped a nice chip over the defense to Nickie Stone who
drilled it into the back of the net. The third goal came on a corner
that was collected by Jess Berthiaume and placed into the net for
her second goal of the day.
Sunday’s victory sets up a showdown with Bruno United
next week at Marianapolis. It should be an exciting match between two
closely matched teams. A victory on Sunday would be guaranteed the
Inferno first or second in the division with an opportunity to move up
into the Elite eight in the Spring 2007.

FC Napoli
Flames move into 3rd round State Cup play with a victory over the
Crusaders 2-1. The Crusaders
scored first at about the 15 minute mark of the first half.
FC Napoli rallies to tie the score just
before the break on a shot perfectly placed by Jordynn Frollo. Most of
the 2nd half was a strong defensive game, then with just a few minutes
remaining
FC Napoli's Kara Laperle finds the back of the net to give the Flames a
2-1 victory.
Coach Darman stated he was very pleased
with his teams effort. "Our Goaltending continues to be solid and our
defense is playing as good as ever". "The effort we are getting from a
number of players is great". "Cara Germain is playing at a really high
level right now and that coupled with the play of our sweeper Jill St.George is making it very difficult for any team to get good scoring
opportunities off us".
A State Cup victory in round 3 over the
Aztec SC will place the FC Napoli GU17
Flames into the Elite 8 Round Robin State Cup play on June 3rd and 4th

The First
FC Napoli
Merit Award
goes to:
Kim Nickle of the FC Napoli
GU14 Inferno. Kim epidermises the spirit of
FC Napoli
and is the perfect recipient
to receive the first
Merit Award.
She plays hard on every play, is constantly working to improve her
skills and she leads by her style on and off the field.
Recently in a MAPLE game “Keeper”
Kim collided with an opponent,
her hand / figures were severely cut, yet she continued to play and
played well long after the initial collision. At the conclusion of the
game it was clearly evident that she needed medical attention.
Kim
received multiple stitches to her hand and fingers. It was originally
thought she would miss a few games. In the end
Kim did not miss
any game time – with her hand wrapped and stitched fingers tucked
securely into her goalie glove she took to the field and played an
outstanding game vs. FC Puma (Napoli won 2-1). This past Sunday she shut
out Sachem FC to record her 2nd victory in as many games since her
collision a few weeks ago.
Kim, all of FC Napoli
tip our hats to you, congratulations on receiving the first
FC Napoli
Merit Award
– you are very deserving not only for your exemplary dedication to your
team and teammates, but for your outstanding work ethic displayed day in
and day out. Keep up the hard work, it is being noticed.

As the MAPLE season passes the mid-point of the spring
2006, the FC Napoli
Flames,
HEAT,
Inferno and
Sparks are all well positioned to
bid for 1st place in their respective MAPLE Divisions. The Boys U13
Blaze have not been beaten yet this season and if they can run the
table they too will find themselves in a good position come the post season. Week 4
Soper on a Roper. Colleen Soper scored on a PK
triggered by a hard trip of teammate Jen Harding to put the
FC Napoli HEAT up by one at the 12
minute mark of the 2nd half. Harding's hard offensive push included
faking out the Bandit's Stopper & Fullback before being mugged by the
Bandit's Sweeper giving Soper the PK opportunity. Colleen calmly stepped
up, placed the ball to her liking and roped it into the top left corner
of the net. The HEAT's Team Defense continuously shut the door on
every Bandit offensive attempt. The FC Napoli
HEAT now sit alone in first place as they begin a 3 game Home
stand playing the Boston Blast on Sunday at 2:45.
The Inferno beat Sachem FC 2-0
The Flames keep burning it up with a solid 1
goal victory over FC Puma.
The Wildfire, playing on a field (Shove)
surface that was less than desirable, played a very exciting game tying
Perugia Pride 2-2. The Wildfire goal keeping was outstanding as
many shots were stopped by Meaghan Dunn and Nicole Dion. The defense was
solid and kept their ground. The WIldfire take on CRU at Home next
Sunday.

Light shines on FC Napoli's State Cup
Victory After issues setting a date, and
then after the lights went out in overtime at the Tuffs University
field, on 4/12 10:00pm in the first
attempt to get this game played, the FC Napoli
GU17 Flames BLAST 3 pasted the Boston Blast in a first round State Cup
game on Monday 4/24 to clinch a 3-0 victory.
The game commenced shortly after 5:00 and by 6:45 the
Flames were beginning to focus on their next State Cup opponent - the
Crusaders United.
The Flames scored in the first 90 seconds of
the game and never looked back. The half ended with
Napoli up 1-0 but the tone had been
set, Napoli was winning the ball
possession game and was out shooting the Blast 2 to 1. The only
real Blast challenge came with about 7 minutes remaining in the first -
the Blast attempted to put some combinations together and got off a few
quality shots. Napoli withstood the
short lived flurry and confidently controlled the rest of the game.
Napoli blasted two
into the back of the net in the 2nd half to secure the State cup
victory. Coach Darman was pleased with the level of play "we played a
very solid game today - we controlled the field - this is what we must
do" - he was also please with the level of sportsmanship "as I came off
the field a parent from the Boston team congratulated me, wished us luck in
our next game and said he thought we were a very good team." "This was a
classy act to say that after everything that happened to get this game
played, and I think the Blast players and parents are a classy group".
FC Napoli's next
State Cup game is vs the Crusaders United, Date and Time TBD.

solid Team victory. "We had a solid Defense, strong Goaltending and an
outstanding performance from the Offense" said coach Wes. "I'm proud of
their performance on the field and at practice."

FC Napoli
Heat,
Flames and Missiles fire away.
The
FC Napoli
HEAT had 21 shots on goal and pulled the opponent offside 13 times in a
3-1 victory over STS. "We didn't exactly play dazzling soccer
today, but we did have the opportunity to try a few new things,
specifically a new offensive set and a our trap 'D'. We played good
enough to win but we need to continue to improve our ball movement if we
are going to challenge the top 2 or 3 teams in the state, a feat I
believe this group of players is capable of". The Heat's next game
is Saturday 4/15/06 at 4:00pm when they take on Division 1 Southeastern
in a State Cup
match in
Fairhaven MA at
Mariner field.
The
FC Napoli
Flames win a hard fought battle over Delta United. The game was
scoreless at the half but Delta United struck first going ahead 1-0
early in the second half. FC Napoli battled back to tie the score about
five minutes later. Napoli then went on top 2-1 midway through the 2nd
half to secure the victory. The FC Napoli Flames play their first
spring State Cup match on Wednesday night, April 12th, at Tufts
University - under the lights 8:00pm vs Boston Blast.
The
FC Napoli

Lindberg each knocked one in for
FC Napoli
as the Missiles defense held off the Mission attack. The Missiles
next play on Sunday 4/23/06 1:00pm in

Napoli INFERNO.
The 4 youngest FC Napoli teams start the
2006 MAPLE Spring season in the same way they ended the fall, on FIRE!
The Sparks

FC Napoli Sparks beat SS Select 2-0.
Jordann Hauge recorded the shutout in net. The Spark take on Western
United at home next Sunday.

chance - stop in and see this team in action - its a wild thing
The FC
Napoli Blaze have now gone 7-1-2 in their last 10 MAPLE
games. With coach Dan Scanlon at the helm you know this 2-0 opening day
victory over the Mass Stingers is just the beginning. While Keeper

even the PK was handled with confidence by the young focused Boguszewski keeper,

And in the the end the
FC Napoli Inferno to hot for TVE/Spirt,
as the FC Napoli Inferno shut them
out 2-0. Coach Simone commented on how strong his Keeper Kim
Nickle was on Sunday, "She has really worked hard over the past year and
today we saw the results of her efforts." "I was also please to see
Chelsea and Megan really push the offense. Both Chelsea's and Meghan's goals were

The FC Napoli High
Performance Sports seminar a success
Nearly 100 FC Napoli players, parents and coaches
attended the HPS seminar and Athlete Performance Evaluations on Saturday
March 4th. The 4+ hour session coordinated by Dr. Malon Bradley, who serves as chair of
the United States Association of Sports Science and Medicine and who
has worked with US Olympic team since the 2002 Winter Olympic Games in
Salt Lake City (Dr. Bradley is a former US Olympian 1976-77), included
an FC Napoli 30 minute athlete specific seminar for players before they began their 2
1/2 hour injury
prevention training and evaluation.
This was an event specifically
designed for the FC Napoli. Each athlete was given an individual
digitally computerized visual & verbal evaluation of their landing
form/stress to the knees and specifics as to how to minimize the likely
hood of knee injury. The workout included proper dynamic stretching,
specifics to increase speed and agility, evaluations on Upper Body;
Lower Body; Acceleration; Vertical Leap; and a individual comparison on
how the FC Napoli athletes compare to the Nations top athletes.
While the players worked out in the 15,000 sg/ft “State of the
Art” gym at the HPS center with the head athletic trainer for the
Columbus Crew Craig
Allen Devine, P.T., ATC, ,
and HPS Athletic Director Nicolle Wood and her staff of seven trainers,
Dr Bradley continued his seminar for another 90 minutes changing his
focus from FC Napoli athletes to FC Napoli parents and
coaching staff.
The day focused specifically on the High
Performance Sports (HPS) philosophy of injury prevention and
sports-specific training to professional and amateur athletes of all
ages, interests and abilities. “We train participants to reduce the risk
of injury and improve performance through programs specifically targeted
to individual sports”. Dr. Bradley explained, “As sports medicine
specialists (an orthopedic surgeon and physical therapist/athletic
trainer), we believe that the best approach to sports injuries is to
educate the athlete and implement strategies to prevent the injuries
from occurring in the first place. Our science-based programs exceed
current standards of personal training and strength and conditioning
programs. Each sports-specific conditioning
program at HPS is developed based on the biomechanics of sport, exercise
physiology, and sports psychology, and is crafted to suit each level of
athletic ability”.
FC Napoli is pleased to have established a
partnership with this outstanding High Performance Sports program.

Festive FC Napoli atmosphere,
positive FC Napoli results.
As the afternoon sun set and the
tepid air cooled, the atmosphere for the 150+ people lingering at the FC
Napoli home field at
Marianapolis remained warm spirited.
The three
youngest FC Napoli teams played their last
Fall
MAPLE games on Sunday, posting a combine Fall MAPLE record of 16-6-5.
“All of our players are improving and most are really beginning to
understand the FC Napoli style of soccer” said FC Napoli president Esad
Darman. “We believe in developing young athletes and over the last year
the improvement of our young teams is testimony of our training
methods”. “I am not talking about the 16 wins I am talking about the
improvement of each and every player, lots of room for progress and many
more things to teach, but these kids are eager to learn and love to play
the game, and that is what its all about”.
With the
training clinics beginning in November
and the team training over the winter months the FC Napoli teams should
again be ready for the challenges that the MAPLE spring season will
bring. Keep it rolling FC Napoli!
Sparks end the season as it began.
The FC Napoli Sparks end the Fall Season posting a 4-0 victory over the
historically strong Inter Bandits. The victory puts the finishing touch
on a successful 9-2-2 record (6-2-1 in MAPLE) and establishes the high
expectations set for the 2006 spring season.
The GU14 FC Napoli Inferno also
concluded the season at Marianapoli with a 1-0 win over the Dragons. The
victory secures the Inferno with a high MAPLE placement for the spring
2006 season. |

Meghan "Porsche" Lerhy scored three goals - "Hat Trick" - as the FC Napoli Inferno heat it up over
Bruno United.
Meghan took control beating the Bruno defenders multiple times.
"She mad a difference today" said coach Simone. "I'm very
pleased with the way our team played" he added. The
Napoli victory handed Bruno United their
first loss of the season.
The Inferno statically played their
best game of the year, knocked in 3 goals and played strong team
defense. Keeper Kim Nickle had some great first half saves and recorded
the shutout. This win keeps the FC Napoli Inferno on track to maintain their high division
MAPLE status. The Inferno end the season next week when they take on
the Dragons FC. Might be a good time to slay the Dragon.
The Blaze, FC Napoli
Boys U13, took on the Bruno United (7-0-0) and played them to a 1-1 tie.
Bruno had not given up a goal all season until FC Napoli came to town.
Both FC Napoli and Bruno remain undefeated for the season. A real good
game vs two really strong teams. The Blaze are at home next week
1:30 vs North Shore United.
FC Napoli Sparks beat
Nova 3-0. Coach Darman said “Best game we have played all year. We
moved the ball well, our defense stopped everything”. Coach Darman was
especially please with the play of his inside midfielders. “our mid play
was very very good today”. Coach also noted the strong game by Sydney
Robinson and Olivia Baroni. Olivia had two goals and combine with
teammate Keeper
Kylie Lowe for another shut out (6th of the
season).

league. The "Blaze" take on the "WAVE" in
Marshfield on Sunday (10/30/05) and with
a win over the "Wave", would set up the battle for 1st between FC Napoli and Bruno
United on Sunday 11/6/05. Should be an interesting two weeks for
the Blaze.
On Sunday 10/23/05, in the scenic valley of
Northampton, the FC Napoli "Sparks" scored two goals to top the GU11
Western United team 2-0. The Napoli defense records it fourth
consecutive shutout.

The "FORCE" was with the
Sparks
FC Napoli Sparks (3-1-1)
shut out the Force. Not the Force nor a 45 mph wind could blow out the
spunky Sparks. Scoring late in the first half the Sparks went into the
break up by one. With the wind in their faces the Sparks Defense settled
in and withstood the Force's attack throughout the second half.
Spark's Keepers, Olivia
Baroni and
Kylie Lowe, combined for
the shutout.
Sparks head out to Oxbow
field in Northampton MA to take on Western United at 4:00pm next Sunday.

FC Napoli has another productive
weekend. |

With 12 FC Napoli League games
played this fall the club teams (WildFire, Sparks, Inferno and Blaze)
have a collective record of 10-1-1. Guess the style is working at
all age levels.
WildFire win 3-1 / Sparks dominate Scorpions
5-0 / Blaze power past CRU 7-0 / and the Inferno battle Winchester SC in
a well played 1-1 match. Three of the four FC Napoli Fall Season
teams are at Home next week. The WildFire play at 10:30am vs
Liverpool, Sparks play the Blackhawks at 1:00pm and the Inferno take on
the Inter Bandits at 2:30pm. The undefeated BU13 FC Napoli Blaze
play the 3-0-0 Merrimack SC at 2:30 at Marshall field. This game may
well be the biggest Blaze game of the fall season. Should be a good one. |

The FC Napoli Inferno (2-0) keep
it rolling with a 1-0 victory over the Shooting Stars (0-2).
Chelsea Urso slams a direct kick into the net to put FC Napoli up by one. The
goal proved to be all that was needed as the the Napoli Inferno Defense
deflected all of the Shooting Stars offensive attacks.&n | |
